Kneeling at Mass

I recently came back to the church after having been away for 25 years. The way I remember things was that we knelt until the priest put away the left over hosts in the tabernacle.

The way things are done now is that everyone sits once the priest starts to distribute communion to the congregation.

What happened?
 
Ummm. I’ve never heard of that before. Every parish i’ve been to, we kneel until the door of the tabernacle closes.
