I joined the Knights of Columbus in college (I think I am a member of the local council?). I was never active in it due to academic commitments (I thought I’d have more time when I joined) but I am graduating in May and would like to become more active in the local council that I end up living near (not sure exactly where that’s going to be yet).

I am wondering what I would need to do/what the process is for transferring membership from councils? I am a first degree knight but was never really active in college.

Thanks!!

Contact the local council where you end up. They can transfer your membership to the local council. Also complete your second and thirt degree. There is no big hassle and any council will welcome some one who wishes to be involved.

Just show up at a meeting with your membership card (it will get you into any meeting, worldwide, through March of the following year. It’s sometimes called your “traveling card.”).

They’ll produce a Form 100 for you to transfer, just sign and you’re done.

Make sure they actually do the transfer, and if you don’t remember the Council Number where you joined, find out, or have someone find out. If they don’t get the transfer done correctly, and then you do your Second and Third degree, the only people who will know you are 3rd Degree will be the locals you just joined up with and you’ll keep getting membership notices as a First Degree from your original council. (I learned this the hard way.)
