I’m currently in RCIA and have been looking at joining the Knights after Easter. I attend the parish in our downtown area even though I live a few neighborhoods away. Would I have to join the hall at the parish I attend or go to the one closest to me?

Thanks.

No, join the Parish where you are active. That’s what my son looked into. For me it’s easy; two rural Parishes and one Council.

You may join any council of the Knights of Columbus you wish; as a knight you would also be entitled to participate in the activities of any other council.

I’d like to be able to volunteer with the KoC as well. I’m not Catholic, is it a “deal breaker” requirement?

The Knights require members to be “Practical” (Practicing) Catholics.

You can be a member of any council however, councils are associated with a (or several) parishes so most of their activities will be directed to/for those parishes. My suggestion to you is that you join the council associated to your parish since that is your spiritual home.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

To become a Knight, you have to be a Practical Catholic, over 18 and a male. There is nothing keeping you from helping out at any event sponsored by the Knights. Your best bet is to find a council near you and talk to the GK, explaining that you’d like to help out but you don’t qualify to be a Knight.

It’s not rare for other folks, particularly those involved in the parish through school or a Catholic spouse, to do volunteer work with us.

And in one notable case of ours, it was the Knights’ example that led to him becoming Catholic after working some major projects with us.

Hang around the barber shop long enough, you may end up getting a haircut.

I actually cut my own 😱

several years ago, I was trimming my beard, got carried away, went up the sideburns . . .

One of the best haircuts I’ve ever had, certainly the most complements ever.

And I didn’t have to give up an hour in the middle of the day, to boot!

Lets ease back a bit…😉

There isn’t much for non-Catholics to do at my wife and kids parish (at one I wasn’t even invited to help at the festival when everyone else was), so I’m just looking for more ways to become involved.

Basically they’ve told me all they’ve got is music.

I am a member of one Parish that doesn’t have a Knights council, so I joined a council that was nearby. Several of our members are in the same boat as me.

It does make some of the fundraising and events a little more difficult, as we primarily serve the parish that hosts the Council, and none of the parishoners know me.

I’m considering seeing if I can get a council started at my parish, but then again, I don’t want to leave the Council I’m in.

Probably not…I’ve played guitar in my home church, but I’m not much for vocals or percussion.

You do it by forming a “Round Table” at your parish that is part of the council at the other parish.

One man is enough for this, but . . .

Once you gather enough (30, normally), you form a new council.

This is how we spread most often . . .
