Yesterday was a terrible day…I went to class at 8 in the morning and was feeling really terrible as it was that time of the month. By 9, i was literally crawling in pain. I went to the doctors office where I ended up throwing up all over and passing out. I wake up in th hospital. Great. Turns out, I have an ulcer and have been suffering from exhaustion. The doctor’s said in other words, I have too much stress. But I don’t know what to do. I work full time because we need the money but I also go to school fulltime and spend the rest of my waking hours doing homework. The doctor said I have to cut back on something, but there is nothing I can do. I can’t afford missing a day of work (which i did yesterday) let alone quitting altogether. Has anyone been in this situation and how did you deal with it. I’ve already prayed but I feel I need some more advice.

Thanks

Perhaps cutting back on your school work would help the situation since you say you can not cut back on work?

How old are you?
You say
I work full time because we need the money
who is the ‘we’?
How long have you been suffering with your ulcer? Was your life on a more even keel before your ulcer? Do you think your life will return to that when your ulcer is healed?
Everyone has set backs in life. Now is a good time to offer up your suffering to God. Allow God to come into your life. Let God wash over you as you surrender your concerns to Him. Ask God to help you in your time of need. He will answer you…sometimes not in the way we expect. May God’s love and blessing pour forth into your life.

Fr. Hardon has an excellent reflection here on prayer and suffering.
Again,
God’s love & blessings to you.

One Minute at a Time

Lord, You give me today
one minute at a time.
That’s all I have, all I ever will have.

Give me the faith
that believes each moment
asks me to trust You even as You trust me.

Give me the hope
that holds within each minute
~ despite pain or doubt or fear ~
an anticipation of eternity with You.

Give me the love
that transforms each minute of my life
into a reflection of
Your forgiveness, mercy and goodness.

Amen.

from The Christophers

"Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year. He is rich who owns the day, and no one owns the day who allows it to be invaded with fret and anxiety.

Finish every day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities, no doubt crept in. Forget them as soon as you can, tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense.

This new day is too dear, with its hopes and invitations, to waste a moment on the yesterdays."

Ralph Waldo Emerson

In your situation, I would probably cut back on your schoolwork - (go part time) if you absolutely have to work full time for the money. You have to take care of yourself. When I’m in a really stressful situation I say a rosary and really concentrate to clear out my mind and relax. Ask for the Lord’s guidance. Then start a plan to fix your schedule so you at least have time to sleep and eat well. It sounds like you don’t have time to do either, which won’t help your ulcer. My best to you. 🙂 Feel better!

Thanks for your replies. The hard part is I can’t cut back on the school work. That isn’t an option as provided by the school unless I want another 4 years of school rather than 1 and a half. My DH and I have decided that I should try to take at least one extra day a week off work and he’ll pick up extra shifts at work as well.

It’s tough because I love learning. I hate working…lol. I liked the quote about living one day at a time and starting a new one the next day. I’m trying to take that advice.

Thanks again for your replies!!

If by ulcer, you mean a peptic ulcer, you need a second opinion. Stress has never been conclusively linked to peptic ulcers. It was previously thought there was a link, but there is no solid evidence. Two people just won the Noble prize by proving that most peptic ulcers are caused by a bacterium, Helicobacter pylori. Part of the problem they had was getting people to accept that ulcers weren’t caused by stress, even though everyone accepted it as a proven fact.
