"Knowledge of God" - (Sister Lucia, Chap. 23)

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

As promised, I’m continuing the final chapters of Sister Lucia’s last book before she died : “Calls” From the Message of Fatima. In Chap. 23, She wrote:

In order to keep God’s Commandments, we have to know Him. Who then is God?

In order to answer her own question, Sister humbly turns to God’s Word for the answer, quoting from the Old Testament Book of Deuteronomy, in which Moses repeats God’s Words to him and to the people of Israel:

I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage (Dr. 5: 4-6)

Sister then adds her own words:

God showed Himself to His people on Mount Sinai, so that they would acknowledge Him as the one true God. We were there, represented by the Israelites; to us also God makes Himself known and addresses His word…

…I seem to see in Moses the figure of pure souls who are continually moving up towards God, climbing the mountain of holiness, while those who live sunk in a life of sin are descending all the time in a swamp of vice and moving further and further away from God…

May the words of this holy Sister who saw our Blessed Mother and Jesus in apparitions on this earth, help to us continue to strive for the Holiness to which we are all called by God.

I agree with SIster Lucia. For weak sinners like me, it is best to reflect on St. Maximilian Kolbe’s statement that, to quote from memory: “the weaker we are the better. No matter what we’ve done, all we have to do is turn to the Immaculata (Mary), who is as it were the 'incarnation” of divine mercy".

Or as the Lord told St. Faustina, to quote from memory (I think it’s number 1146): “Tell the greatest sinners that they have the greatest right to my mercy…I cannot punish even the greatest sinnner if he appeals to my compassion”

Praise to Jesus Christ through Mary.

Amen. It seems to me the best way to keep the commandments is to trust that God is Mercy. That he will help us as we strive to keep the commandments, and will always forgive us when we repent for failing. Because His Compassion has no limits.

Yes, dear brother Pat, to Love God is to believe in His Mercy. God is Love and we can only learn to know, love and serve Him truly, by His Grace. Jesus has told us “Without Me you can do nothing”, but with Him as branches on the Vine we are called to love as He loves.

Let us make love our aim! (cf 1 Cor 14:1)
