I would avoid donating money to it or even participating in fund raising events for it. The Church teaches that we must avoid all near occasions of sin and that we must avoid being an accessory to sin. I do not at all trust that the Komen Foundation will not use one’s money to promote abortion, contraception, euthanasia, and embryo destructive research, etc. It is an unacceptable charity. The fact that it bears the name of someone guilty of direct abortion and proud of it brings scandal and tarnishes the noble cause of finding a cure for Breast Cancer.
Of all the many issues out there, there Church has precious few ‘official’ stands on many of the particulars. Instead, she witnesses the truths of divine revelation and exhorts us to apply these principles to the myriad applications required in daily life.
To knowingly give one’s money to a foundation that then gives it to Planned Parenthood is the same as a direct contribution to planned parenthood.
If A=B and B=C then A=C. A=B=C Komen just becomes the middle man.
Sure Komen may do great work with some of that money. But they are not the only group doing great work. One could always find individual researchers who do morally reputable work and donate directly to their labs.
I boycott all products with the pink ribbon on them because usually funds made from your purchase of these products goes to the Komen foundation which in turn goes to Planned Parenthood.
