My gf said that when Krishna was born, the king slaughtered all the male children to try to kill Krishna, like what happened with Jesus. How should I respond to that?

I’m by no means knowledgeable about hinduism, but I quick search on the story of Krishna’s birth doesn’t indicate a mass slaughter of all male children in a region. Rather, according to the tale the evil king imprisoned Krishna’s mother and father who had been prophesied to give birth to Krishna and killed their children as they were born.

Certainly there’s a common theme of persecution to prevent a savior’s birth, but is not as close a correspondence as your girlfriend is implying.

From Srimad Bhagavatam 10:3:22, where Krishna’s life-history is described:
O my Lord, Lord of the demigods , after hearing the prophecy that You would take birth in our home and kill him, this uncivilized [King] Kamsa killed so many of Your elder brothers. As soon as he hears from his lieutenants that You have appeared, he will immediately come with weapons to kill You.
Kamsa didn’t try to kill all male children.
