Oh my!!! Those are really gorgeous!!!

Try calling this supplier: am-church.com/

Do not assume they don’t have it if you don’t see it on their website. They have a store location near me that has a HUGE supply of vestments, and I’m sure they have the resources to find anything you need.

And they are very wonderful people too - I highly recommend them!! 👍

I would say you shouldn’t try to be provocative when serving; if you do, then you’re doing it the wrong way.

Besides, you should only wear lace at the Priest’s discretion.

You are absolutely right – I should have not been so glib. I was kidding.

In addition to my white alb I sometimes wear a black cassock and a surplice and it brings big smiles to many – but not all. A lace alb and an amice over my cassock would look good and it would actually please many. My pastor has already said it would be fine, if I could find one. I think helping those people “to remember” is what drives me…

If anyone here knows of a used lace alb for sale or trade to a GOOD home, please contact me. I’m a bit over 6’ tall and I wear a 17.5x36 dress shirt. Thanks again.

LOL! Sorry; I didn’t pick that up at all!

You get to wear an amice? Cool. I wish we were allowed rabats, but I think our Priest would flip! 😊

What’s the big deal about wearing an amice? No rabat is needed. I have one of those cassock/albs that requires no amice which is normally what I wear. I also have a VERY basic traditional alb that requires an amice. It’s nice to wear that when it’s very hot. I only wear a cassock when I wear surplice with it.

I also sometimes wear a “mock dickie” (not a mock turtleneck) in place of an amice with the one alb. They are pretty much identical to very high-end amices from places like Euroclero yet they cost about 5 bucks each and they look sharp.

I’m sorry, it’s just not right for laymen to wear the lace alb. Do reserve some dignity for priests.

Now that I think about it, I agree. I had stupidly kept thinking cotta/surplice, each time I read alb…

There is nothing wrong with a layperson wearing a lace alb.
I would argue otherwise. The vestments are actually clerical garments proper to Priests. It is only by exception that servers (i.e. specially-selected laymen assisting at the altar) are permitted by custom to wear. I would not presume that one should wear anything more than what the Priest asks for. Fine, maybe some lace in a surplice for a 1st class Feast, but in an alb… and of the style a Priest would wear?

I agree 100%

Priests don’t “ask” for anything around here – except of course that one is properly vested.

I don’t equate lace with being vested in a more formal or fancy way – just different. In my case, in a way that would make many recall the past and to me that’s a good thing. It would also show that I have respect for the past, and I do.

Although I am 100% for cassocks and surplices, I really don’t like the lace. Looks like negligee to me. Far too effeminate…
Wow - that is something that has never crossed my mind. I would never ever consider this to be “effeminate”. I equate this with beauty and honor. The fact that a man can wear something like this and instill awe and respect in me for his priesthood is not a fashion statement. My goodness, if that were the case, I’d have issues with priests in cassocks because they look like dresses!!

Do any of you know where to procure a lace alb similar to the lace alb (and surplice) shown in this photo? If they are not too expensive I would like to purchase one to raise the BP of some in my parish while I serve Mass. Thanks!

Try any major religious article SUPPLIER - they may not have it in stock but they CAN order it. If you have a problem with suppliers, just call Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter online (N. American Headquarters are in Elmhurst, PA). Their priests wear beautiful garments. Perhaps, they can refer you to their supplier.
