I figured I’d ask this a different way. So after having a spiritual director for a short time, and without one for more than a year, AND have still been on the lookout for one with no success, what do we do for guidance until God sends one? There are questions i have on discernment, fasting, etc which (usually) require the guidance of a spiritual director.

And yes, I have a prayer life, and follow the rules of the Church as best I can, thanks.

Our parish priest is who i worked with in the past. Now that we have new priests, Covid prevented our parish from the opportunities to really get to meet them. So with new priests I’m not sure what to expect since the ones before Covid were so busy, and now with Covid seem almost unreachable. I contacted 2 dioceses within the last year to see about spiritual directors and amazingly they said pretty much that either they didn’t have a program or to go find one through confession. How can dioceses not have spiritual directors for the laity???

Spiritual directors are the exception rather than the rule — few Catholics have them. While it is highly commendable to have an “accountability partner” of sorts, in this journey to heaven we are all supposed to be on, the ordinary path is to take care of one’s own spiritual life, with the help of a good confessor (confessors are not necessarily spiritual directors, it’s two different roles).
