Lady of Fatima Statue?

I received the 2010 Lady of Fatima Calendar which has what looks like a bunch of photo-shopped images of the statue of OLOF.

I really detest that statue, depicting Mary as this red-eyed, plucked eyebrow princess. What really ices it for me, is the oversize crown that Mary is depicted as wearing.

Look at it, the crown is depicted as being larger than the statue’s head. It is out of proportion and generally ridiculous in appearance.

If anybody knows, I’d like to understand why Mary is depicted with those red eyes, as if eternally weeping. That’s not how I picture Mary crowned in heaven in the beatific vision.

It may not be how you picture the Blessed Mother, but that statue was sculpted based on the description Sister Lucy provided to the sculptor commissioned to make the first statue. Kind of difficult to argue with the seer over what she really saw, isn’t it?

As you say, it’s hard to argue with that. How do you happen to have that information?

But, what spiritual message is there in an oversized crown?

This is what I don’t like about "private revelations.’ According to the Church, they’re for the primary recipient.

What happens is that these “private” revelations become “approved” and then they become like “general” revelation – take it or leave it.

How do you see this? Do you just “melt” with emotion when you see that statue? In my mind, I can’t get beyond the hyperbole of the large crown and the semblance of Mary as a teenager with plucked eyebrows.

I always assumed she is depicted with red eyes like she’s been crying because the message she gave in Fatima is that the world is headed to destruction and if we didn’t shape up, so many of us would be lost. She is our mother, how could she not cry?

That crown is a bit big. I do wonder why its the shape it is. But to be honest, I’ve never seen a picture or statue of Mary then didn’t have her eyebrows perfect (if she has eyebrows anyway. Sometimes, they seem to disappear with some of her other depictions). But I assume she appeared looking younger not only to bridge the gap between her and Fatima children but also, at least for me, it helped remind me that she was a teenager when she conceived our Lord.

As well as aging and illness are the ravages on the body as a result of not simply time, but time as we know it after sin.

In heaven we will have a body transfigured like that of our Lord. The statue and the depiction of our Lady that seers see is most probably influenced by what we expect to see. Our Lady or Lord would not appear to us in a manner that we would not recognize.

Can you possibly post a photo of the statue? The Traveling statue in my parish has brown glass eyes and I am intrested to see this!
