What do you know about the Landmark Program. My sister in Law attended a program. And my brother in law who is from a Scientology program background encouraged her to attend. This makes me supicious and also viewing their website.

I’m with you…anything that tells me that I can “cause” the miraculous in my life, that in some way starts telling me to focus entirely on me me me me me as the way to enlightenment gets me suspicious.

It is too close to all those EST and TM and other self-involved, self-indulgent and heretical movements of both the first century and the 1970(s) that lead so many people astray.

My personal experience has been that there is one Truth, One Way…His Way…and the Holy Mother Church holds the fullness of His Teachings.

My sister’s boss strongly suggested that she attend. When my sister got there she told me the first thing that struck her was the the leaders were on a platform like the people in attendance were supposed to be worshipping them. Afterwards they were paired off and my sister’s partner just started complaining and sharing very intimate details of her life. Then she asked my sister to share her problems and my sister told them she didn’t have any to share. She told the woman that she didn’t know her well enough to share things with her. This whole scenerio made my sister very uncomfortable. Then my sister went to the leaders and told them she was leaving. She just had the strangest sense that they were a cult.
Needless to say, they refused to refund her money (which was pretty expensive if I remember correctly).

Too bad about the refund…I think I would report them to the Federal Trade Commission …

And I think your sister is a very bright lady with a real backbone…she should start her own weekend program. We could rent a hall, get her a platform where she could stand…charge a fee…oh, wait…

😃

That would have been a good idea. But knowing her, she probably just let it go.

Thank you all for the response, the first thing my wife and I thought of was the EST program by W.E. in the 70’s.
When we went to GOOGLE and entered Landmark thier website sounded a lot like the only EST meeting where it is all about You and You controll You.

Actually, it’s more than “close” to EST. It is its direct successor.

EST - Erhard Sensitivity Training - was concocted by an ex-used car salesman (really) named John Rosenberg, who took the name Werner Erhard. After EST had ceased to make a lot of money, he shut it down, sold the whole kit and kaboodle to some followers, and it re-emerged as the “Landmark Forum”. Perhaps having learned from the difficulties of Scientology (which Erhard once adhered to), they put it forward as an educational entity, not as a religion.

It’s pure human potential falderal, an no Catholic should have anything to do with it. And, it’s expensive. The end of each phase in the “education” process is a pitch aimed at convincing the attendees that it is essential to sign up (and pay more) for the next level of “instruction”. If one doesn’t, they keep after him, dunning him until he does. Volunteering to do the dunning is a way of offsetting the costs of the next phase for an individual.

Blessings,

Gerry
