The local public high school, which I have one child attending, is putting on the play, The Laramie Project, as the fall play. I just found out about this two days ago. I know what the play is about and I’m very upset about it. There is a group of parents who plan on appearing at the next school board meeting to talk about concerns. From what I’ve heard, they aren’t going to be allowed on the agenda of the board meeting. Any ideas on just how to go about battling this one?

If the school board won’t listen, you may have to go over their heads. There may be teachers at the school who are also unhappy to have this play put on, perhaps they can help?

Yea, Just leave it alone. Its a sad sad thing that really did happen, maybe the age group is wrong, but the message isnt, just my :twocents:

The problem is the play presents a false picture of what occured. What it was was a drug deal gone bad-a horrific thing indeed BUT they are not puting this play on to preach about the evils of drugs-they are puting it on to promote accpetance of homosexual behavior.

Surely it preaches the evils of violence against homosexuals (or indeed most violence) rather than merely acceptance of homosexual behaviour??? IF so then the message is quite correct - even if said behaviour is sinful, violence towards the sinner is never an appropriate response except in self-defence.

Perhaps I don’t know enough about the play or the real-life events.

It goes beyond that-it preaches that any criticism of homosexualtiy is evil. Per the rationale of the play all Catholics who adhere to the teachings of our Chruch are complicit in Mathew Sheppards death.

Interviews witrh the Killers. i did not, BTW, intend to imply that Shepard was seeking drugs(which reading my origianl post it appears i did.)
