Hello Everyone…

Last night in my RCIA class, we were talking about the Pope and the Deacon (he was giving the class) brought up the fact that there have been 5 Dogmas from the Pope in the last 2,000 years. He said the last one was the Immaculate Conception of Mary, someone asked what the other 4 were and we were unable to find them. I have tried to find them online and can’t. If anyone knows what they are, Please Help.

Thank You in Advance,
😃

Off the top of my head:
  1. The Immaculate Conception
  2. The Assumption
  3. Mary mediatrix of all grace
  4. Papal Infallibility
  5. Here the top of my head fails. Anyone???

Thank you Deacon Ed…

I didn’t realize what a hard question this was…Sorry everyone.

Still have my training wheels on, I still have lots of questions, loving every minute of my journey so far 😛

Peace :bible1:

Maybe the Deacon who made the assertion should provide you with the 5 he was referring to. 🙂

  1. Mary mediatrix of all grace
    This is dogma
  2. Papal Infallibility
Yes this comes from Vatican I but would not be dogma without the authority of the pope. The bishops,(the Magisterium) in union with Peter (the pope) are infallible. Without that union, they are not.

  1. Mary mediatrix of all grace
    This is dogma
I have looked around the net and can not find this as a dogma.
Thus, when the dogma that Mary is the Mediatrix of All Grace is finally pronounced the correspondence between He who is All Grace (Christ) and she who is full of grace (Mary) is easily seen. The dogma understood properly from the data of Lipa is merely a recognition of Mary replicating her role in the spiritual order what she accomplished in the physical order 2,000 years ago.

It is not correct to say that there have been 5 dogmas from all the Popes.

The Magisterium teaches infallibly in any of three ways:
  1. papal infallibility - the number of papal teachings that fall under this type are a matter of dispute among faithful theologians; then-Cardinal Ratzinger once attempted a list, which he stated was not exhaustive
  2. The Pope and the body of Bishops gathered in an Ecumenical Council also can teach infallibly, but the number of these dogmas is much greater than 5.
  3. The Pope and the body of Bishops can teach infallibly by the ordinary and Universal Magisterium, i.e. when not gathered in a Council and without one discrete dogmatic definition, but by their continual teaching.
There are not 5 dogmas.

Is Mary the Mother of God a dogma?
Yes, in fact this is one of the beliefs of the Church, dating from the Council of… I want to say Chalcedon, someone help me out here.
  1. Jesus is God
  2. Mary is the Mother of Jesus
  3. Mary is the Mother of God

From what I am finding, there are more than 5 dogmas in the Church.

For Mary being Mediatrix of all grace, the Church teaches infallibly that Mary is the Mediatrix of all Grace. In the CCC, paragraph # 969, it states, "Therefore the Blessed Virgin is invoked in the Church under the titles of Advocate, Helper, Benefactress and Mediatrix."Again, what I was taught,= Sanctifying grace is a participation in the divinity of God himself. Since Jesus is God and Mary gave us Jesus, the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity, in his humanity, by giving us grace itself, so too does all grace come to us through Mary, i.e., mediatrix of all grace.

From this also stems another teaching (dogma) of the Church from the Council of Ephesus that Mary has the title of ***“Theotokos” *** Which is Greek for “God-barer”

In thinking about it, I believe also that the perpetual virginity of Mary may also be dogma.

Thinking out beliefs, while I cannot pin point the exact source, I also believe there are more dogmas than what we listed. Take the true presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, in the fullness of his body, blood, soul and divinity. This is dogma. The power of absolution by a priest is another. The power of binding and loosing is another. The list can go on and on.

The Catholic Encyclopedia defines a dogma as **“A teaching of the Church revealed implicitly or explicitly by Sacred Scripture or Sacred Tradition, to be believed by the faithful by virtue of solemn definition or the Church’s ordinary Magisterium. For a teaching to be “dogma” the specific truth must have been formally revealed and the dogma must be proposed as binding on the faithful. Hence the dogma’s acceptance is necessary for salvation. **”

The Four Marian Dogmas

The Mother of God (AD 431)
The Perpetual Virginity (AD 553)
The Immaculate Conception (AD 1854)
The Assumption of Mary (AD 1950)

So God cannot bestow Grace on anyone but through Mary?

I don’t see how it follows that Mediatrix = Mediatrix of all Grace.

So God cannot bestow Grace on anyone but through Mary?
God can do whatever He wills, but he choose to make Mary the channel since She has a special role in the Mystical Body. Some call her the neck., we are the body, and Jesus is the Head.
