Any fans of “Last Man Standing” here? I just started watching it and am sort of shocked that I like it as much as I do. I don’t love all of it – the parents put their daughters on birth control, for example. And the family is hardly representative of the middle class – they’re clearly extremely wealthy. But it’s kind of refreshing.

Thoughts about its cancellation? I know ABC has denied that it was due to Tim Allen’s politics. Anyone agree or disagree with that?

(I hardly recognize myself for enjoying this show! But I’m good with surprising myself every now and then.)

i have never seen the show.
I think you’d like it, @7_Sorrows. Tim Allen’s character is a Republican who appreciates traditional values. His daughters give him a run for his money but he usually slings some strong responses.

It’s on Hulu – not sure if you have access to that. Also WGN will start showing reruns. Also not sure if you get that channel.

I really like it, though I only watched a few episodes. I think it was on Netflix, but that could have changed.

I love Tim Allen. I watched Home Improvement when I was a kid and loved that. Anything he’s a part of is immediately better because of it 😄

I never enjoyed “Home Improvement.” That’s probably part of why I’m so surprised that I’m liking “Last Man Standing.”

But yes, he’s no Archie Bunker. I doubt there will ever be a show to rival AITF.

i didn’t like Home Improvement either. i did hear about the controversy when the show was cancelled.

Allen’s character in this show is far less obnoxious to me – he seems more intelligent this time around. I also like his wife on this show more.

It was not cheap to produce with Tim Allen’s bloated contract & the show got thrown in Friday night death time slot.

It was weird because TGIF nights used to be full of quality shows like Boy Meets World, Family Matters, Step by Step, Full House & Dinosaurs.

Today? Friday night is considered dead zone for TV except my favorite BlueBloods is still running…

As I understand it, the show wasn’t owned by ABC either but was instead owned by 20th-Century Fox, so ABC had to negotiate fees every year. I think I also read that it would be on the hook for paying for more show-related expenses should the show move into a 7th season. I don’t know specifics, though.

Yes that’s right & I don’t blame ABC/Disney for going in other direction.

I don’t watch T.V. shows that much but when I do it is something like PBS Kids or a cartoon of sorts.

Another fan here! I love Last Man Standing and Tim Allen. In fact, I like it more than Home Improvement.

It wasn’t until the second season that I began watching and was quickly hooked, which is surprising because there’s almost nothing else on TV I like to watch. When ABC cancelled LMS, I confess that I was very upset.

I hope Fox picks up the series. In the meantime I’ve watched the reruns more than a few times. 😊

I really liked the show too. It’s been far too long since I’ve seen Home Improvement, to say which I liked better, but Last Man Standing was good.

I loved that show, great humor and it wasn’t one sided.

Considering it’s popularity and there weren’t ‘star’ difficulties, I think the decision was politically influenced.
Kinda strange to cut your only right leaning show, when it’s paying the bills and then some. A smart company sells different products for different audiences, they don’t cut out one large target market from their product lineup. I guess I’m saying it must have been political rather than a business decision.

It’s interesting that ABC didn’t cut loose “Fresh Off the Boat” even though its ratings are lower than “Last Man Standing.” And frankly, any show that can maintain solid ratings in a Friday night slot is perhaps even more impressive. ABC said it axed LMS because it decided to go all-drama on Friday nights. But I mean, come on – if it was a show that was doing well and could have replaced a show that wasn’t doing as well on another night and it wasn’t given this opportunity… Something stinks.

I loved the first season. I think the show took a dive in the second and I stopped following it. Each episode became overly “super heavy-handed politicized message of the day”. It was like what happened to Glee, but instead of being super liberal it was super conservative. I don’t mind themed episodes, but both shows just got too heavy handed about them.

It’s ok. Pretty low brow humor but I enjoyed it for the most part.

As I said I never got back into it, but did for anyone else who felt season two and maybe three got too heavy-handed political, did LMS get any better in later seasons?

My wife and I love LMS. We’re excited to hear that it might be coming back.
