Last Supper and Passover

Was the Last Supper a Passover Meal taking place? I beg to differ. Passover clearly started on the Friday night (not Thursday night). And clearly, Jesus is the Sacrificial Lamb of that Passover.

It is no co-incidence that St John refers to Him as “the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world” (Jn Jn 1:29). Even St Paul tells us that “Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed” (1 Co 5:7).

So, why the confusion over the Last Supper and the Passover meal? My understanding is that at the time of the Last Supper, it was a Jewish custom to prepare the place for Passover by removing the leaven from that location. They were just preparing for Passover.

The problem with this is what Jesus says in Luke 22:15 - “He said to them, "I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer,”

At the latest, Jesus ate the Last Supper with his disciples on Thursday night, but Friday was the day appointed for the Passover. In fact, weren’t the priests selecting the lamb for the slaughter at the time that Jesus was before Pilate?

The Seder meal could be eaten anytime during the week, if I remember correctly. The three o’clock time would have been used each day that the Passover was celebrated.

Jesus, a Jew, was eating the Last Passover with his disciples, also Jews on what we now call Thursday night.
