Has anyone seen or know anything about this show? Is it anti-Catholic at all? It was advertised at our (very orthodox) parish, but I’m always wary of these stage shows that feature “nuns” joking about Catholic subjects.

I haven’t seen it, but it has been presented in several parishes nearby as well as my own. I haven’t heard any complaints; so think there is no serious problem. I suppose different people may have different ideas of what is funny, but there seems nothing malicious in it.

I saw it last year at our parish. LIfelong Catholics, I think, will find it very funny as it contrasts the good ol’ days before Vatican II with today. Even though I am fairly new to the faith, I still enjoyed it very much.

From what I remember, the only thing I took issue with was their presentation of the Church’s teaching on whether Adam and Eve were real people or that they represent a group of people. I think they said the Church now teaches that Adam and Eve represent a group of people from whom we descended but I am pretty sure the Church still teaches that Adam and Eve were real people, our first parents.

I saw it at my church. It was cute, not fall off your chair funny, but amusing. I’d give it a ‘mostly harmless’.

Hey, I even won a plastic Mary figurine with a magnet base for because I knew what ‘Immaculate Conception’ means!

peace,
rivera 😃

This show is great fun. If you arrive with a sense of humor about your Catholic idienity you will have a real good time. It a one actor show that keeps you laughing for a couple of hours.

The Imacualte Conception bit is a real hoot. It is an eye opener–so few Catholics really know what it is. If you are old enough to remember the pre-council days you will find this show especially entertaining.

Go-Relax-Enjoy!!

Rivera, I also won a Mary statue for knowing what the Immaculate Conception was. Sister called on me and when I gave the answer half the audience said NNNOOO. Sister said, “Who said no? She absolutely right.”
Sister put napkins over women’s chests that were showing too much cleavage. After the show I asked her where in Chicago she hailed from since I am from there also. She told me and asked where I was from. I told her and she said, “No, no dear, what bar did your father drink in?” It was good clean fun and not disrespectful at all. I think it’s probably a lot more fun for those of us that went to Catholic school.

I saw it and thought it was absolutely hilarious. There was nothing disrespectful at all. It’s good clean fun, so long as you can tolerate having a bit of fun poked at the more esoteric points of our faith. One thing, though I did not experience this, but my previous associate pastor, Fr. Tharp (who has a weblog here) was dismayed that during the question-and-answer session, the nun suggested that the Church’s teaching on women’s ordination could be changed.
