*Beatum festum vobis omnibus exopto!

Hodie est Memoria S. Hieronymi, presbyteri et Ecclesiae doctoris.

Deus, qui beato Hieronymo presbytero suavem et vivum Scripturae sacrae affectum tribuisti, da, ut populus tuus verbo tuo uberius alatur, et in eo fontem vitae inveniat. Per Dominum nostrum Iesum Christum, Filium tuum, qui tecum vivit et regnat in unitate Spiritus Sancti, Deus, per omnia saecula saeculorum.
Amen.

**V. **Sancte Hieronyme,
**R. *ora pro nobis.

What did ya’ say?
What did ya’ say?

Since you know Latin, I’m wondering if you could translate, into Latin, a phrase for me that I heard recently?

The phrase is “pee my pants funny!”😃

"I wish you all a happy feast-day!

Today is the Memorial of St Jerome, priest and doctor of the Church.

Father, you gave Saint Jerome delight in his study of holy scripture. May your people find in your word the food of salvation and the fountain of life. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
Amen.
[ICEL translation]

**V. **St Jerome,
**R. **pray for us."

ex capite capitis:
off the top of my head

tanta ridicula, bracas meas mictus sum
or:
… togam meam mictus sum

Literally: “Such funny things, I have peed my pants/toga”

*“tanta ridicula” *may have to be declined appropriate to its atecedant. Above I have intended it to be neuter plural: “things so funny”. *“mictus sum” *is a male speaker; if you are a lady (and would say such a thing 😛 ), change it to “micta sum”.

I’m also kind of guessing at that passive perfect construction, but it seems right if one is peeing one’s own pants rather than someone elses.

Perhaps **severinus ** will come and correct any errors above.

😃

Hi tee,

Thanks for the Latin lesson and a happy-feast day to you! Also, I am sorry to have posted the way that I did, since this is in the Spirituality forum. I, for some reason, thought it was “Water Cooler.” So, my posting was “ex capite capitis.”

My translation:

O God, who to the blessed priest Jerome did bestow sweet and living passion for the Holy Scriptures, grant that Thy people may be nourished by Thy fertile word, and through it be brought to the font of life. Through Our Lord…

But don’t quote me on it. My Latin is pretty bad.

Gratias tibi ago.

I’d meant to post a more literal translation, and neglected to do so. I think yours is fine.

Happy to help. I’d almost posted in the Water Cooler, like the other “LATIN:” threads* and as [post=593827]suggested by Therese Martin[/post], but put it here on the theory that Latin ought to be more ubiquitous.

(* All two of them)

This is turning into a comedy!

Scrolling through the “Water Cooler” Forum, what do I discover? LATIN: Festum!! What?

Didn’t I apologize to tee earlier today, because I made a post that seemed inappropriate for a thread in the “Spirituality” Forum? Am I losing it?!

Oh, they moved the thread! Thanks, mods, I’m glad to learn that I’ve only lost a bit of my mind and not all of it!😃

So, tee, what are your plans for this thread (wherever it might happen to be at any particular time)?

Huh.

That’s either what I get for taking the name of an Administrator in vain, or what you get for bringing pee into the Spirituality Forum.

I blame you. 😛

I just love to celebrate the Latin legacy of the holy priest and doctor, St Jerome!

More choice verses:
in principio creavit Deus caelum et terram
terra autem erat inanis et vacua et tenebrae super faciem abyssi et spiritus Dei ferebatur super aquas
dixitque Deus fiat lux et facta est lux

appellavitque lucem diem et tenebras noctem factumque est vespere et mane dies unus
