Latin Mass at the Cathedral of St. Paul (Minn.)

Does anyone from the Twin Cities have details about the Latin Mass that will be celebrated at the Cathedral’s Sacred Heart chapel?

I am overjoyed that the Latin Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral. To be honest, I never thought I’d see the day when it returned to the Archbishop’s church.

It will be quite a broadside fired at the influences of satan which are trying to destroy the Faith in our archdiocese.

I am very grateful to and pray much for the Archbishop for this opportunity.

Wow, this news has spread far and wide… it started off just being a private Mass and now Relevant Radio is advertising it and it’s showing up here on the CA forums! 😃

Here’s the scoop – I and one of our deacons at the Cathedral are the ones who are setting this up, with our good friend Fr. James Adams (who will be celebrating the Mass).

It is **not **an official Cathedral Mass, neither sponsored by the Cathedral nor by the Archdiocese. The rector of the Cathedral gave us permission to have the Mass, and allowed us to make it open to the public. We are using the Sacred Heart chapel in the main church, not the high altar or main sanctuary.

It will not have music (though Fr. Adams has a nice chant) and will be a very basic Mass. I just want to warn those of you who are thinking of a St. Agnes-like High Mass… nope, not this one. We didn’t have the time or ability to plan that much for it – it was just going to be a private Mass after all! 🙂

It will be a simple *missa normativa *(ie, “Novus Ordo”) LatinMass, offered by Fr. James Adams, and anyone who would like to attend a quiet, prayerful Mass is welcome to join us.

Friday, January 28th (feast of St. Thomas Aquinas)
6:00pm
Cathedral of St. Paul - Sacred Heart chapel
239 Selby Ave., St. Paul, MN 55102

Veneration of, and blessing by, a 1st class relic of St. Thomas Aquinas will be offered.

Parking will be available in the Cathedral’s lot.

We are hoping to have a good turnout, so that perhaps we can get permission to do this again in the future.

Fair enough. That doesn’t dampen my enthusiasm.

But now that I know about it, other and myself are welcome to come and receive communion aren’t we?

Sorry Arch, I don’t quite understand…

Of course everyone is welcome, all I meant by my post was that what started out as just a request I made to a priest friend to celebrate a small Mass has now ballooned (praised by Jesus!) into a “big deal”…

That’s fine. We have no problem with that! 🙂

I just didn’t want anyone disappointed by the fact that we aren’t going to be as “pretty” as St. Agnes (and yes, I love St. Agnes! I really really wish someday we could do a St. Agnes-style Mass…)

But, of course, no one should be disappointed – it’s still the Most Holy Sacrifice of the Mass!

Could you please describe for us non-parishioners of the Cathedral, one of the most magnificent Catholic edifices in the U.S., where the “Sacred Heart Chapel” is located?

It’s located in the main church, as a “side altar chapel” in the north transcept (Dayton Ave. side).

Come in through the main church doors across from the parking lot on Selby Ave.

I will try to be there, too. Fr. James Adams officiates for Mass sometimes at the Woodbury Healthcare Center where I volunteer my piano playing. I have been struck by his presence. He spreads so much love. He really cares about people. I have asked him questions about different Church teachings in regard to my life and he always comes back later to ask how I’m doing with whatever it is. His eyes are so kind. They remind me of what I think Jesus’ must have been like. Fr. James seems to be a very excellent priest. I wish we had more like him around.
 
Why would you need special permission to celebrate this Mass? It’s Novus Ordo!

Where is Fr Adams assigned now? I met him when he used to assist as a Deacon at St Agnes, his home parish.

Fr. Adams is not assigned to the Cathedral. He is assigned to St. Ambrose in Woodbury.

Well at least this NO Mass will be celebrated in accord with Vatican II (Latin, Gregorian chant…Eucharist as the Sum and Summit of our Faith).

To bad not ALL the Masses in St. Louis can stand up to a Vatican II Mass with Latin and Chant.
 
Any chance if it being celebrated Ad Orientum instead of Ad Populam. You don’t need permission for that either, as it is the NO norm.
