Latin Mass question

I want to submit a question to the Panel if I may.

What is the reason for the altar server holding the Chausible (?) of the Priest during the elevation of the Host and Chalice?

I’m still learning about the Latin Mass and this has been a curiosity of mine for a couple of months. I keep forgetting to ask the FSSP Priest whenever we speak.

I’m not sure, but I think it was due to the weight of the old-fashioned chasubles (they were much heavier than those used in the Pauline Masses), and it was to make sure that the chasuble (being kind of heavy) did not cause spillage and profanation of the Body and Blood of Christ.

Actually, by picking up the chasuble, the servers prevented a dropped Host or spilt Chalice. The heavy chasuble if not picked up, could have struck the Host or Chalice, causing spillage.

How can lifting the casuble from the behind prevent the droppage of Our Lord?

It was to aid the priest in elevating the sacred species, as they were often heavily embroidered with precious metals.
