Anybody know of a site where I can actually hear some traditional latin prayers being recited?
I had four years of Latin in high school, (my choice, I loved it!)but it was Classical Latin. And I think it’s a bit different in pronunciation.
Being a convert after Vatican two, I’ve never heard church latin at all!

I’d like to learn some prayers in Latin.

I’m sure this has been suggested, but had you thought about attending the Traditional Latin Mass? We still do mass like before Vatican II. 🙂

Thanks!
I am planning to go to a latin mass when I am next in Vancouver. Can’t wait.

Ecclesial Latin is typicaly written in the same way as Classical Latin (with a few minor differences), but pronounced quite differently. The one that always confuses classicists is that we pronounce our v’s as v’s, and not as w’s. The “r” sound is also slightly rolled.

Overall, the pronunciation for Ecclesial Latin in very similar to Italian. When I first was learning the Extraordinary Form, and I was struggling with the responses, the sacristan who was teaching me told me to just pretend like I was reading Italian. It worked perfectly.

Although I don’t have any resources on pronunciation, I suggest you look at 8 Prayers Every Catholic Should Know in Latin from St. Peter’s List.
