Latin rite vs Eastern

What is the difference between eastern rite and latin?
I hear these two terms often in the forums. Are they the same as Greek Orthodox and Roman Catholic?

Thanks but I am still confused. It sounds like the eastern church and the roman church falls under the Pope but the greek orthodox are the one’s who split in the schism. Correct?

Liturgically, the Eastern Catholic Rites and the Eastern Orthodox are the same, the major difference is the Eastern Rites believe in the supremecy of the Patriarch of Rome over the other Patriarchs, whereas the Eastern Orthodox do not.

There’s ONE Catholic Church. There are Eastern RITES and the Roman RITE within that one Church.

The Eastern Orthodox became schismatic, refusing the authority of the Pope (among other issues), and has since fragmented into eleven churches or ecclesial bodies (again, since Christ only established one Church, not multiple competing systems of truth).

The Eastern Catholic Churches (22 of them) are in union with the Bishop of Rome as the Pope. The Bishop of Rome is the Patriarch of the West, where the Patriarch of Antioch is generally regarded the Patriarch of the East. Eastern Orthodoxy which makes up 80% of Eastern Christians is not united with the Pope, but do recognize the Bishop of Rome as the Patriarch of the West. ManyOrthodox Churches have however retained Apostolic Succession and Valid Holy Orders and therefore valid Sacraments.

I live in the Latin Rite Archdiocese of Newark N.J. it is also a Ruthenian Catholic Eparchy and a Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy. All three are headed by bishops of the Catholic church.All 3 are equaly bishops of the Catholic church.
