I watch a solemn high mass on the internet, and I have a question. When do the deacons receive communion? I can’t see that either the deacon or the sub-deacon actually receive communion themselves. I see them assisting with the priest’s communion, and with the communion of the faithful. But I don’t see them receive communion themselves.

Naturally, they may decline to receive communion, and since many deacons and subdeacons in the EF are actually priests themselves, they may have celebrated Mass earlier in the day and declined to receive. However, in the Mass they kneel and receive immediately after the celebrant says "Ecce, Agnus Dei…"
