Latin translations

Hello,

I need some help with a latin translation the phrase i need to translate is “from the beginning to the end”.
The current translation i have is “ex exordium ut terminus”. I’m not 100% sure about it because after some research i found that, end and beginning both have several meanings, the context i’m refering to with this phrase is ,from the beginning of something to the end of it.

Any help would be appreciated.
 
Idiomatically: *ab ovo usque ad mala *-- Literally “from egg to apple”, indicating the first and last courses of a representative meal (a la English: “from soup to nuts”).

It is difficult to give a literal translation absent context, but some might be:
  • a principio usque ad finem
  • a primo usque ad finem
  • a principio usque ad novissimum
  • a primo usque ad novissimum
Undoubtedly others.

So do you think i should change the phrase for it to be more applicable, I’m considering this phrase or something like it for a tattoo, the direction I’m going for is “beginning to end” or something similar.

Could someone help me derive a translation which is creditable. or give me some suggestions.
 
I ask this out of total curiosity. I have never liked tattoos and often wonder why one would try to “improve” the body that God already has given us. In addition, would you want that tattoo 30 - 50 - years from now. In all honesty, I do not comprehend why one would want one. There is even an Old Testament reference to abstain from tattoos.

The reason I’m considering this is just a matter of interest. I have always wanted to translate this script in latin. I’m in no way tiring to improve the body that god has given me, a tattoo is just like a piece of jewelery. I’m not pumping my body full of steroids and changing the physical form of my body. I understand why certain people don’t like tattoos however for me it is the same as people not liking earrings and etc. Regarding having a tattoo is 30 years time, doesn’t concern me if the significance of the image or text is well thought out and symbolic personally and spiritually. I extremely dislike those who chose tattoos in 20 minutes at there local tattoo palour.

This is the reason why I’m trying to obtain research regarding this subject, I am not 100% going to get this done this is why i posted this particular thread, and I’m glad that you have brought up this issue because it is one which arises frequently. I respect the choice and thoughts of others, however i don’t think that their views should be place on others. God created us all individual and we should be able to explore this and develop our own identity.

The Vulgate uses the vocabulary *principium et finis *in Rev 21:6 and 22:13, if that gives you some confidence. Likewise, some alternate vocabluary are *ab incipio usque ad finem *and ab intio usque ad finem.

I just had a funny thought. If it means “From the beginning to the end,”, you better watch where you get it tattooed.
