Is the Vulgate still available? My latin is pretty poor but I cant think of a better way to practice. Anyone have any ideas about who might still publish ?

You can download the E-Sword software for free. They have mostly protestant versions in english, but they have a number of versions in other languages, and the Vulgate is among their available bible versions. It’s worth a look.

You can check E-Sword out HERE

Adnauseum is right. It’s a beautiful volume and the real Jerome. But it’s pricey, unpunctuated, and the print is rather tiny.

For a somewhat more ‘reader friendly’ edition with a slightly larger typeface, headers, and punctuation, you should look for a copy of the:

Madrid Clementina (Biblia Sacra iuxta Vulgatam Clementinam).

Used copies can sometimes be found at eBay. Just search LATIN BIBLE.

Thanks for the quick responses. It will be a challanging but interesting read. I remember in university finding a copy of Augustines Confessions that was in latin on one page english on the other. I think i learned more latin reading that then I did that semester. Thanks again

The Vulgate is online at drbo.org/
The site has the Douay Rheims, & if you click on “Vulgate” ( in small print, upper left hand corner) on that page, you can read from it there…

I’ve seen bilingual Latin-German, Latin-Spanish, and Latin-French editions of the Vulgate, but never a bilingual Latin-English though I’ve often wished I could find one. But there are Latin-English editions of the Psalms. Here are details of a very good one:

The Psalms A Prayer Book, Also the Canticles of the Roman Breviary. New English Translation with Ecclesiastical Approbation Including the New Latin Version from the Hebrew by the Professors of the Pontifical Biblical Institute Authorized by Pope Pius XII. Also containing preface, explanatory introductions, verse summaries, reflections, commentaries and topical guides by Rev. William H. McClellan, S.J., Very Rev. John F. Rowan, D.D., L.S.S., Rev. James E. Coleran, S.J., Dom Bede Babo, O.S.B., Rev. Francis P. LeBuffe, S.J. Fourth Enlarged Edition.”

Published by Benziger Brothers, Inc. Copyright 1945, 1947 for the English Texts throughout except the English Translation of “The Apostolic Letter In Cotidianis Precibus,” and the Latin Texts, by Benziger Brothers, Inc. 416 pages, plus 29 pages glossary/index."

I found my copy of this at eBay.
