This is a show I will never watch again.

Tonight’s episode had a plot line that was unmistakably based on Terri Schiavo. In the episode, the husband is killed by who else the woman’s parents. When he is killed, the detectives claim they have a lot of suspects after all there is a crowd of pro lifers. The detectives are trying to find a man in the crowd. The pro lifer never saw him but a pro choice woman identifies him. To ice the cake the parents are helped in the murder by a clergyman.

I have written NBC about my displeasure. I hope many of you will do the same thing.LawOrder@nbcuni.com

I flicked it off too as soon as I realized…that show really has lost it’s talent. Even Lenny Briscoe was becoming quite the liberal commentator in his last days as detective…it just got annoying. Entertain me, don’t try to politicize everything, kwim? It’s just plain sad. I flipped around watching pretty much nothing until I dozed off after that…(oh, now I remember, I watched Good Eats on food network…LOVE that show!) – If I were to write, I’d have to seriously dig out the “cussing thesaurus” – I’m so fed up with that show…

For a while L&O and L&O SVU stories were always based on stories from the news rather than original story lines, and they were always political. They also have some anti-Catholic writers, in my opinion. SVU has done several episodes where priests are bad guys and Catholicism is bashed.

I saw the episode myself. I too put my antenna up for signs of an agenda and saw them. At the same time, I think it did contain things that us Pro-Lifers need to keep in mind, primarily that violence doesn’t justify violence. IMHO, we need to marginalize the extremists who would resort to such things if we want to appeal to the middle and actually end this abomination.

Also, I think we should be grateful that the writers knew enough to not have the minister and family Catholic (as was the case with the Schiavos) as such a “remedy” would be against Church Teaching. The Schiavos were wonderful Catholic witnesses to their faith this entire time. Terry might end up a saint out of this entire thing.

Finally, while SVU has had many Catholic themes as one of the main characters is Catholic who is imperfect in his struggles with the evil he sees every day in his work, I find it very real life. While Stabler is Catholic, he doesn’t turn to God in the face of this evil and thus is unable to appropriately deal with the evil. Isn’t this exactly what hte Church teaches when we don’t turn to Christ when we are troubled. More than once, when Stabler has what is increasingly becoming a faith crisis, I’ve turned to my daughters and said, “He needs to get to Mass or Adoration as only God can help him deal with this evil. He is trying to deal with it himself.”

P.S. I didn’t find anything wrong that the Pro-Abortion (I refuse to ever use the word choice as it forgets about the choice the child doesn’t get to make) recognized the guy. Wouldn’t evil better be able to notice a fellow evil one, especially one who appears in sheeps clothing? 😉

I found this a subtle way of saying that pro life was not law abiding and was helping the fugitive while the abortionist was law abiding and was a concerned citizen.

I will NEVER, EVER watch this show again. I love it, but I’d rather make the small sacrifice of not watching it than see fellow christians and pro-lifers get spit at. This show was an insult to us and to Terri and her family. :banghead: And, it used to say that their stories were from the headlines. Excuse me, but the only one who was murdered in Terri’s case was Terri. Her “husband” getting killed was not any part of the whole deal.

I tried to watch it, but it became so predictable…it was obvious from the ‘bomb blast’ that it was going to be a round-a-bout attack on those who tried to prevent Teri’s murder and supported her family. Those who were Pro-Life were the loud and strident and shrill, nasty voices…and yet, my experience has been that on life walks etc. it is the anti-choice (true choice) advocates who are using foul language, shrill, strident and nasty in their attack on demonstrators.

If the show had shown any kind of real creativity in its treatment, and I don’t necessarily mean the ‘bad guys’ could have been different, then I could have watched it. But the writing stunk and the plot line was a snoozer…

That it was a rehash of an episode they did a few years ago didn’t strike me until this statement of yours. Thanks for reminding me.

I hear you but the pro-life organizer w/ the megaphone aslo sincerely looked that photo but he didn’t recognize him so they showed him equally respecting of the law and a concerned citizen.

My thoughts when they were showing it to him was that he acted like he knew who was and was lying. I guess you saw it differently than I did.

i could see from the opening scenes of the show what the case was based on, so i flicked it off. yes there have been episodes that are anti - catholic, but there also some that have been pro - life (or at least pro life to a degree greater than typical prime time). however - i must say - anyone who is giving up this show - i recommend ‘without a trace’ - i love this show as well, and watched an episode two weeks ago that i though portrayed the church in a positive light. there was one bad priest portrayed, but the priest in question (the one that is missing) is found to be missing because he is doing his ultimate penance - he knows he is dying so he has journeyed back ot his home town to make ammends and ask for forgiveness for his grave sins he committed in his youth. the episode also describes how he was called back by God from his sinful life and became an excellent priest.
