I was reading some writings from Lucia (Fatima) about her experiences during the 1917 flue pandemic and feeding the sick neibors; testament to the corporal works of mercy and visiting the sick.

In today’s culture, we are asked to iscolate ourselves to remain healthy; or iscolate ourselves when we are sick to be curtious to others. So, I would rather form my conscience on what to do if my neighborhood got Ebola over what the media chirps about.

So, I ask you, my brother and sister on a game plan to help take care of each other if an illness becomes problematic in our neighborhoods.

I think this is a good question, and one that needs some research before any sort of answer can be given. Before reading this post this afternoon, I was thinking along similar lines and wondering if there would be a point that Ebola would be more widespread in the US and would I find myself home with my children, and would I be one of those people with stockpiles of food and waiting it out. Your post makes me realize I didn’t even consider others in my train of thought. :o Thanks for the perspective.

Ebola is a dangerous disease and those who come down with it in our country need to be isolated in a hospital.

And when hospitals become overrun? Yes, it can happen even here. Maybe not with ebola but with another illness. Or possibly a few different illnesses going around at the same time–like enterovirus-68 and ebola patients both needing care in isolation units but not enough beds for either. Then what are we to do? As a country we have forgotten how horrible things can quickly become under the right (or wrong) circumstances. It would not be a bad idea to make a plan now. My husband and I did last week when he got orders to head over to Africa. We will continue living just the way we always have and encourage our children to do so as well. If ebola or any other disease becomes widespread in our area, we will step up good hygiene measures with the kids and increase our prayers. When it gets bad, that’s all any of us will be able to do anyway.

If there is a call from the hospitals, then we should pitch in. We might be able to relieve those who need to deal with the Eubola patients directly, to have more time to do so.

But if you know someone who is hiding a eubola patient (I don’t know if anyone here would do that.) and if you don’t have children and can risk your life, then go into the house and tell them to have that pateint sent to the hospital, and if they won’t, call the cops. That patient is otherwise guaranteed the most grisly death I can think of.

Most likely you won’t catch eubola from simply going inside someone’s house and talking through a door, but it’s still a chance.

I’m gonna die soon anyway, so I’d do it. But I shouldn’t speak through my hat.

All, pray to God and see how he wants you to do this corporal work of mercy. Everyone has a different life.:byzsoc:

My thoughts and prayers are with you, your husband and your children at this time. I don’t think it very** likely that ebola will gain a foothold in developed countries. Most articles I have read “in the know” state that the pandemic of ebola in West Africa is mainly due to the extreme poverty over there. One scholar was talking about Bill Gates who donated $50 million dollars to the ebola relief, primarily in Nigeria. This week it has emerged that no new cases of ebola have been diagnosed there, and the outbreak has stopped. It goes to show what an increase in qualified medical help and proper facilities can achieve.

I agree. I think it is much more likely another virus will cause us problems, but I do believe there will be an illness that wreaks havoc here

First, if I had children I would make them my main priority as most parents would. Thereafter, I don’t know what I would do or how I what react. it would depend on the circumstances. Would I be a help or a hindrance? Do I have some training or will I be going in blind? It all reminds me of Stephen King’s book THE STAND and the fate of CAPTAIN TRIPP. The good or evil would certainly become present. I can not speculate as to how I or most people would come forth to alleviate the suffering of the sick and dying. All that I can think of is THE BLACK PLAGUE and the cry of "bring out your dead. Reassure me if you can, that I would do my Christian best.
