Hi all,

I am trying to remember some commentary I heard on EWTN radio regarding Extraordinary (Lay) Ministers of Holy Communion (EHMCs).

It was a call-in show, and I believe the guest was Fr. Peter Stravinskas.

Anyway, the guest was discussing the widespread disregard of the instructions of the Holy See about the use of EMHCs. He mentioned that there was a big problem in that some EMHCs tend to have a “sense of entitlement” about this ministry. I believe these were the words he used. Does anyone else remember this particular show? Was it Fr. Stravinskas? Am I correctly summarizing what he said about EMHCs, particularly regarding the “sense of entitlement”?

I also remember that in the same show, the guest was asked another question about a liturgical abuse. In return, he asked the question, how old was the Priest? He was making the point that Priests ordained in the 60s and 70s are much more likely to depart from the rubrics, while younger priests are much more likely to stick to the rubrics.

Thanks for any help you can give me on this question.

I didn’t see that show but I can comment on one instance att our Church that I thought was interesting - I recently read in the GIRM that music should be strongly considered an important part of every Mass. Well, our Church has two daily Masses, a 7:00 and 8:30 am during the week. They are without music/organ/planned hymns. Recently, about 2-3 months ago, one of the young Priests who was ordained about 18 months ago, started singing in a few plaaces to get the parishoners to sing in reply. “Through Him with Him in Him…” for example. Then I remembered reading “any way you can get some music into the Mass it is preferred…”
