How do you battle this sin? I am very lazy at times and in school I have trouble gettimg started on work. Is there any good way to quit this sin?

Every time you begin to feel lazy, start praying, and keep praying until you feel refreshed. I always feel after deep prayer like ive just had a good cry and am taking those stepped breaths in( the ones litttle kids do all the time). Pray to God and ask him to strengthen you, and to help you concentrate. And remember above all, these things take time.

Why do you think you are lazy? Has someone told you that you are?

I was called lazy and told I was not living up to my potential, among other things, when I was younger. Mainly because I chose to do things differently or in a different order than the adults around me.

Just some things to consider before one goes about labeling something as a sin.

Because I just have trouble getting things done. For example, I will plan to start working out, but when it comes time to actually do it, I will put it off and I will end up not working out.

Procrastination is a part of this.

Maybe this article can help you from Opus Sanctorum Angelorum - Work of the Holy Angels. It is from their many Youth Circulars, but I read them even at my age of 43 (but I’m really only 39 again).

It may apply to sports and prayer, but try to apply it to your situation. Self-discipline is the key and structure helps too. That means routine.

Here are other circulars from the site.

Thanks for the link.

You are right, self discipline iand structure is the key. I remember in high school when I wrestled, it was so much easier to just go to the gym after school. Now that I am in college, I can’t keep myself disciplined.

Ahhhh - college. Yep, that will do it to you.

I have a cousin who just finished her doctorates and said she can’t believe how unstructured and undisciplined her life became. Now she is working to get routine and structure back into it, and the self-discipline that comes with it.

Do read that article and hopefully it will help.

I just read it. It reminds me of the quote, “Once begun, half done”. The article does give some help. I like what it says about getting started right and praying when you wake up. Maybe the key is more prayer. Like Fr Corapi woulld say, “If you have prayed the rosary… pray it again”.😃

I’ll let you in on a secret. I’ve got the same problem which is why I read that article. I’ve been in the middle of a transformation to get order in my life, just like my cousin. I’ve concluded that the only way to do this is to get routine and structure so things happen at certain times each day. In my case, I was motivated by the desire to pray more. I couldn’t find 15 minutes and now I start most days with Lauds at 7:00 and Mass at 7:30, then I’m at work by 8:45. Prior to that I started work at 6:30 and worked until 5:00 on 8 hours pay (at the expense of God and family). Now they get 8 hours out of me and that’s it. I feel really short-changed on the days when work meetings pull me in earlier and I don’t get my mass and Lauds. It helps me through my day.

Then I started to notice all the other areas of indiscipline in my life and now the transformation is moving there.

Be paitent with yourself as it will take time to build that structure. Take one step at a time and if you fall, get back up again. That’s what I’m doing.

It starts by turning off my computer after this post so I can get work done. I’ll turn it back on tonite.
