I’ve only had contact with LDS through their missionaries. I have a couple RLDS friends.
RLDS, now Community of Christ, “reorganized” under Joseph Smith III some years after JS Jr. was killed. It’s been said they reflect the way the church was in Kirtland…while the LDS reflect the church the way it evolved in Nauvoo.
The RLDS I know tend to be more orthodox in belief, repudiating plurality of gods, eternal progression, polygamy, temple rites, baptism for the dead. One of their most progressive Prophet/Presidents was Grant McMurray, who resigned a few years back. Stephen Veasey is now President of the church…Grant McMurray was the first “non-Smith” to be head of the church. The two people I know do not believe the Book of Mormon is an ancient text, but do affirm it as holding scriptural authority.
They have their own version of the Doctrine and Covenants…rejecting section 132, which authorized polygamy. They also reject the Pearl of Great Price, even though the Book of Moses is incorporated into their “Inspired Version” of the Bible…I have a copy of it along with their Book of Mormon, given to me as a gift.
