Even before Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign, Webb “publicly defended Mormons from the charge of not being Christian,” Hodges says. The Catholic writer "made his unpopular case in the Christian publication First Things — in an essay titled ‘Mormonism Obsessed with Christ’ — and extended his case in a book called ‘Mormon Christianity: What Other Christians Can Learn From the Latter-day Saints’ with Oxford University Press (2013).

I read his “Catholic and Mormon: A theological conversation” that he co-wrote with Alonzo Gaskill.

I appreciated the effort these two men genuinely try to make in finding common theological ground between Catholicism and Mormonism, but, knowing both, it seemed that they were both trying to make squares fit into round holes. They were respectful, though, in their approach to each other’s theology.

It was a good effort, but failed in it’s aim, IMO.

Prayers for his family and friends.

I think I skimmed it when it first came out, don’t really remember it. I added it to my Amazon wish list recently, not sure if it’s worth it though, since I had a feeling the book was as you described. Might still read it though.

Would you be interested in my copy?
