One could also take the view that that those who chronically leave early for less-than-important reasons were at the least ungrateful and at worst committing sacrilege. The reason is that they have just received the Eucharist, and when walking out the door they still have particles in their mouth, which come out as soon as they start talking or making phone calls outside. They have not given the Lord any time for thanksgiving, but instead made their priority getting to the nearest television or coffeehouse.

Imagine being invited to someone’s home for dinner. You come and have a nice meal with them, and then you just get up and leave without thanking your host or even saying good-bye. I’m sure that chronic early-leavers wouldn’t think to treat their dinner host with the disrespect that they give to the consecrated Host.

You shall not have any gods before you. That would include the god of football

The god of lunch.

The god of homework.

The god of avoiding traffic.
I think you priest is absolutely right.
One of our past pastors at OLSS in N Myrtle Beach always said you have not fullfilled your obligation if you do not wait for the Blessing… JUST DO IT theNFL can wait…

I remember one time after the closing prayer people were leaving the priest looked down and said can you leave me some room to get out. My mom and thought that was great.
