Lectio Divina and Secular Works

Recently, I’ve become very interested in Lectio Divina (detailed here: www.valyermo.com/ld-art.html), it’s definitely a very interesting way to experience the Bible. Here is my question: Do you guys think that this sort of reading and interpretation could be applied to works other than the Bible, for example secular fiction. I do not think that the same reverence would be necessary, but examining a work prayerfully to see what message it is teaching seems to me like it would be a useful exercise. Although I am not an expert in such matters, what do you guys think?
