I’ve noticed in the Lectionary that the daily Mass readings for years ‘a’ through ‘c’ seem to be random. The goal seemed to be just to cover each Gospel and certain books of the Old Testament.

Why didn’t they select certain readings from the Old Testament and match them typologically or prophetically with readings from the Gospel?

You’re more likely to see this on feast days but not on regular days.

Can anyone find any typological connection for any day other than a feast day?

As it stands for the Missal of Paul VI the daily Mass readings go consecutively for certain books. Daily Mass however has the readings arranged in 2-yea cylces. This is different from the 3-year cycle of the Sunday readings.
