I’ve been hearing it more and more from the loony left. “Lefebvrites” it’s not enough to recognize them for what and who they are, the FSSPX, no, they are Lefebvrites.

Has this been around long? Personally I’ve never heard it before the excommunications were lifted. And I had done extensive reading up on the society as well. To me, I think it’s a rude, shameful attempt to depict them as a personality cult worshiping the late archbishop.

“Oh don’t listen to them… they blindly worship every word and crazy notion of that ultra-conservative traditionalist renegade right wing schismatic zealot Lefebvre.”

Is anyone else insulted?

I am also insulted. I also have never heard the term “Lefebvrites” until a few days ago.

I’m more insulted of how “traditional” is used as a pejorative or how “ultra-conservative” is meant to be demeaning. The Catholic Church is ultra-conservative and traditional!!! It has always been. The Church is the rock and the only Earthly embodiment of Christ’s Church! That has been the tradition forever. And since it will never change, it is ultra conservative.

I don’t think I have ever been so upset of how the media is treating the Church.

I’ve been reading that traditionalist ultra-conservative Fr. Z’s blog, WDTPRS, wow so much Catholicism! It’s shameful! How can he think such hurtful narrow minded things! lol Anyway, my favorite cardinal in the whole curia Cardinal Darío Castrillón Hoyos is being smeared now too! Why? Because how dare that traditionalist cardinal, he wants internal Church unity!

It’s a sad day when it’s a smear to be who you are, when it’s depicted as shameful to faithfully practice your faith as your fathers handed it to you… the demons will be having fun tonight…

“lefebvrites” is the equivalent of the French word “lefebvristes”, a word that is very often used in France, and since a long time, to indicate that someone is going to the mass of the SSPX and his “not in communion with the Church”. The word was often used for more or less “traditional” catholics and always as an insult .

It is always used as an insult. Lay people and clerc who are using this word in France are also using more or less equivalent words (“integrist”, “fascist”, etc.) as a way to intimidate people. It is called in French “terrorisme intellectuel” (intellectual terrorism).

When confronted to such expressions, the best thing to do his not to repeat them and to explain to the person in front of you that you will not use them, because they are insulting. You can say that you are a catholic, a polite one, and that you are an educated person, so that you are not going to use words like this one. You can also emphasize the fact that in life, at work, in a classroom, in a hospital, in a hotel, people are usually not using words like this one. They are allowed to. Why should he be different in the Catholic church?

Not so long time ago, in France, if the people in front of you were clever enough to understand, you would not have the word popping up in conversation.
If they were not, then you, the "suspect’ and “strange catholic”, would have considered a probable “lefebvrites” yourself, whether or not you had any connection with the SSPX.

Terrorism = violence = war = disunion = nothing to do with Christ but everything to do with Satan.

Made a big mistake. Please read as follow:

"You can also emphasize the fact that in life, at work, in a classroom, in a hospital, in a hotel, people are usually not using words like this one. They are NOT allowed to. Why should he be different in the Catholic church?

Thanks.

I think “SSPX’ers” and “Lefebvrites” are both offensive terms because they create a false distinction between traditional Catholics and “other” Catholics.

There are no “SSPX’ers”. There are no “Lefebvrites”. There are Catholics. I am tired of these false terms being created to impress upon people that traditional Catholics are not, in fact, Catholic.
