My husband and I have encountered a rather big issue regarding who to chose to as the legal guardians in the case of our deaths (which, hopefully, will be WELL after these children turn 18…).
I am the oldest of 6 (the youngest in just now entering middle school) and we have 2 children and expecting another this fall. My family used to be all Catholic, but now it seems that only my Dad and brothers are. My mom…we have not a clue where she stands of anything. While, we know that my Dad would be great, my mother is 100% out of the question. She is no longer a suitable role model in any shape or form. Sad, but true.
My husband’s family used to be Catholic. But his brother (who is younger) is finishing up at Baptist seminary - so, he is out. And, the parents are out, too. They left the church when the brother did (or about that time. Also, my MIL has said some pretty harsh remarks concerning our choice to continue being Catholic. So they are completely out…
How in the WORLD do you choose someone to take care of your children with the trust that they will raise them Catholic???
We have NO ONE. We have some wonderful friends, but they are not Catholic. They are respectful of our faith, but still…they are not Catholic. This is IMPORTANT to us. Why can no one see this within them family? We already had to nix them all as godparents for this child due in the fall…
Should we speak with a lawyer on this issue? How do you find a Catholic lawyer in the first place? We clearly need to figure this one out. We would like to have a will (no…we do not have one AT ALL yet…) before November.
We really need some major help and prayers, please!!
