Legion Of Mary Luncheon

Every year, the Legion of Mary hosts a meeting and luncheon for us Auxilliary members unable to attend the Monday Night Business Meetings. Although our Church is large in numbers, membership in the Legion has declined, with few women and even fewer men. Not many Auxilliaries, either.

Being an Auxillaiary is not that hard, although you do need at least a half-hour a day for the prayers. But the prayers are just five decades of the Rosary, the Magnificat, and shorter prayers before, between, and after.

Even better, the have the prayers printed in two forms, an ordinary prayer card, and a LARGE TYPE prayer card for seniors like me

BTW, the luncheon was chicken, chinese food, fruit, salads, and cakes, with soft drinks and coffee to wash it all down. :clapping:

How did I become an Auxilliary? Well, my RCIA Sponser is in the Legion, as an active member. And she has told me that she remains my new Godmother, as my first Godparents are long dead. Neat, huh?

Just show up at the next Legionary meeting at your parish. (It will be listed in the weekly schedule of events.) Visitors are always welcome.

If there is no Legion at your parish, check around at near-by parishes, and give the coordinator a call. That person will be very glad to assist you.

They might not be on-line - a lot of the people who run them are poor and/or elderly, thus, not on the Internet. Try phoning around during office hours. It may take a bit of digging to find them.

We are not all old women. My praesidium is composed of all men who have young children. I cannot recommend the Legion of Mary enough. It is an apostolic association based on the spirtuality of St Louis de Montfort. Go to the Concilium web site and send an email request for the closest contact in your area. legion-of-mary.ie/

I’ve been the member for about 2 years now. Since then, we have 2 more new groups at our parish and this brings a total of 4 legion of mary groups: 2 for young adult (english and spanish) and 2 for adult (english and spanish)

I like praying the rosary with my group. The group has motivated me to pray the rosary.

Well, it is to be hoped for that you will find one nearby sooner or later.

I am a Legionary in London, and have been a member for about 4 years. The meetings are great - we start with the Rosary, have a spiritual reading (usually from the handbook that is given to every member) we report back on the work we do, recite the Catena (Mary’s Magnificat) have a spiritual talk (called the Allocutio) and sort out work for the coming week, followed by the concluding prayers.
I would recommend visiting the websites already mentioned; the official one in Dublin is the place to go to to find out about Legion activity in your area, I’m sure they would be delighted to help. I have met members from the Concilium (like a head office) in Dublin and they are very friendly and approachable.
It’s a wonderful organisation!
