Lent is always difficult for me. I work full-time and this is my fourth child, so giving more time to God is hard. I always struggle with nutrition and health, so fasting can be difficult as well. I try to come up with something that will support health.
This year, I’m going to try to eat simpler foods every day but Sunday. This is also a gift to my husband, since he does the cooking, to encourage him to take it easy during Lent. Basically, the least meal prep possible - and try to avoid pre-prepared foods. So, instead of boxed mac and cheese, I’d eat a slice of bread and a slice of cheese. I’ll allow exceptions for health (e.g., canned soup when sick, honey in tea for a sore throat, a quick snack of any kind when getting contractions that might be caused by hunger).
I’m also trying to set aside time for a Rosary Novena, but as I’m in month 8, I realize I might need to restart it later. Trying to do a Rosary a day when pregnant / giving birth can be difficult - especially during childbirth, labor, and those first postpartum days (daze?) when one tends to lose track of time
ETA: Also giving up Facebook for Lent. Seriously, there are too many calls to political action that stress me out, waste my time, and just don’t feel like they are where God wants me to spend my energy. Might be a good idea to cut off some of that clamoring for a while.
