My friend posted this joke.(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)
I laughed and then immediately fell into a pile of scruples. I’ve never given up Facebook for lent and I had just decided I would do that this year. You do end up telling everyone that’s what you’re doing so that they dont think you are ghosting them, or dead. Does it diminish the worth of what you are doing in this case to tell people? With other lenten sacrifices I’ve usually kept them private. I know it wouldn’t be worthless given how many cardinal sins Facebook is usually just waiting to cause.

Anyway the itch of my scruples lifted and I’m just interested in what you think of the old “Gone Fishing” type of post about leaving Facebook or other social media for lent.

I didn’t post that I’d given it up for Lent but just posted that I’d not be on for a while so if anyone really needed me they should message my husband. It will be less complex this year now Messenger is separate. I found it much harder to give Facebook up than chocolate! 😊

A Gone Fishing sign sounds good. Not only would it let people know not to expect much, but would remind them that there is a good life to be lived outside of social media.

Even if they thought you ghosted them, it’s only for 40 days.
I wouldn’t make an announcement. Just do it.
Think of it as a social experiment. 😉
Maybe you will see giving it up is a good thing, like people that give up alcohol, or tv, or sweets.
