I plan to give up TV for lent. I’ve seen an idea on social media about decluttering your home. Gather up a bag a day for 40 days. Either discard if not usable or bring to a charity/thrift store. I was planning to read the Gospels and Acts for lent but I think I will read the whole New Testament during lent.

Fasting through lent as defined by USCCB
Bread and water fast on Wednesdays of lent
Plain food only no condiments. This includes salt & pepper
No desserts or snacks
No alcohol or flavored drinks. (coffee excluded)
Added hour of daily prayer
Donation to the “poor box” every time I pass by.
Stations of the Cross at least once a week

If you are giving it up at the 3:00 hour, pray the Divine Mercy chaplet instead. Giving up a bad habit and replacing with a better one.
That was partly the reason for the 3:00 hour fast. 👍

I’ve been close to the limit of what I can handle for spiritual activities all year (…sometimes over the limit…I’m learning…), so I’ve made a deliberate decision not to go overboard for Lent.

I’m giving up social media, and adding a free class from the St. Paul Center. I’d like to find a retreat, but I’m having trouble and it’s getting less likely now that March is just about here.

My husband agreed to join me for the class; at least, he’ll watch the movies with me. This is in itself a sacrifice for me, since he insists that I have to wait and watch them straight through with him before I’m allowed to watch them on my own for learning purposes (pausing so I can take notes, etc.).

I would like to roll my eyes, but that’s not in the spirit of willing sacrifice – so I will refrain, and thus get started on that Lent stuff early. 😉

I saw this idea online last year, and I may do it again because it really was an amazing experience: Giving up your bed.

I’d say for the first few weeks, I slept on the floor. No mattress, just a pillow, a blanket, and the floor.

After a few weeks, the pain got to be so bad, that I had to use a memory foam mattress. I am going to try again to just sleep on the floor, but sleeping on memory foam really wasn’t too great either.

If you’re young and/or tough, I think it’s a great idea

I’m giving up Facebook from March 1st until April 15th.

Hardest part will be not being able to participate in opening day baseball game game thread topic starting April 3rd in my favorite team’s fan club Facebook group. GO ROYALS!

Other than that, I might try to add daily reciting of divine mercy chalet at 3 pm (started a daily rosary during lent like 6 years ago…still do one)
FB for me, also. I usually don’t tell what I am giving up, but I have found FB a time waster and a place for troubling comments. I plan to check on family/friends on Sundays. Peace.

The usual for me.

😊

Maybe you could read a chapter from the Bible each day? A different book of the Bible each day?
