Lent is coming! Lent is coming! Am I crazy to look forward to Lent? I am pretty sure about half way through I will be saying, 'I’ll be glad when it is over! I’ll be glad when it is over.
I think what I really look forward to is a designated time to reflect, meditate, contemplate and recompose my spiritual life.
I think a lot of people think of Lent as a ‘Catholic Thing,’ including a lot of Catholics, but it isn’t. It is a ‘Jesus Thing.’ Jesus went off into the wilderness for 40 days and 40 nights to contemplate and wrestle with ‘you know who.’
So am I a little bit daft that I look forward to Lent?

More than ready. I look forward to Lent. It’s a very spiritually rewarding time.

I suppose I’m the opposite of the OP. Lent is hard at the beginning for me but it gets easier as time goes by.

I’m never ready for Lent. It always turns out okay in the end, though.

I typically don’t do well with the Great Fast. 😟 I’m going to try harder this year.

I’ve never felt the need to prepare for Lent…or Advent…both are season’s of preparation in themselves; the former for the death and resurrection, the latter for the incarnation and second coming.

So glad to see this. I, too, just love Lent, for much the same reason you state quite well - reflect, meditate, contemplate and recompose. Perfect. I get kind of a jump start every Lent which keeps me going for quite a awhile. I wind down around Christmas which just never does as much for me as Lent/Easter. No comparison. No matter how hard I try to ignite the Advent / ‘Holiday Season.’ Onwards and upwards! Or should I say inwards?

No you’re not daft at all 🙂 Lent is wonderful pulling me into gear spiritually when I can be a bit slack…I need that structure to help me…and now I’m really looking forward to it too Mary Estelle.

I went to an Adoration retreat over the weekend and we were handed a little book
of Lenten readings. So I am ready. I think I will order one from the Saginaw Little Books as well.

We provide those for all of our Parishioners in English and in Spanish, People love them.

I always look forward to Lent. Our now late priest would give me my ashes every year and then sneak up behind me after everyone had gone. And with a twinkle in his eye, he’d lift up my bangs and say, “Just wanted to make sure you got your ashes.”

And when the first Sunday of Lent would come up, I’d ask, “Father, are you enjoying Lent?” He say, “It’s just started!” And I’d respond, “I know. Isn’t it wonderful?”

I found out later that he told people he didn’t know anyone who enjoyed Lent as much as I did. I just enjoy growing closer to Our Lord.

Of course, this year, I am praying Mama doesn’t take another whoopsie and wind up in rehab again. We made it to Holy Thursday last year and then she fell after a dr appt.

This year, I have forbidden her to fall. No leaving the house without two people helping her down the steps and staying with her. No doing anything that will land her in the hospital. She is to finish reading the Catechism of the Catholic Church. I offered to read it to her if she doesn’t think she can hold the book. That way, we can both stay out of trouble.😊

Praying for your Mom to stay healthy and
not fall!
Thank you. She needs all the prayers she can get. If I can just get over this flu, I’ll see if I can have my throat surgery during Lent. It’d make the food restrictions easier.

Praying for your throat surgery too.
(That does not sound fun. I had a tonsillectomy when I was 9. They coaxed
the children into it back then (1961) saying you could have all the ice cream you wanted.
I didn’t want to eat anything!)

I remember those days. I begged Mama to let me have my tonsils out. She said they weren’t coming out unless it was necessary. I still have my tonsils too.

You are lucky. They used to say tonsils were unnecessary, but I don’t think they believe that anymore.

Just like gall bladders. And yet, I think they’re necessary to keep the stomach where it’s supposed to be. My surgeon said the stomach moving is normal after one has had their gall bladder removed.
