For those Christians who do observe Lent. What are some things people are doing for Lent?

I figured it would be nice to just talk about Christianity without always having to focus on the differences.

What sort of resolutions have you made? Giving up food? Giving up your time to help others? Reading more Scripture, attending more church, tithing more?

I am excited to hear responses!

I like to go to church, at least once on a Friday during Lent, and attend the Stations of the Cross. The prayers and hymns are so beautiful and reflective.

I also gave up ice cream. I feel so childish saying that.

Doing daily scripture readings, going to church more often, trying to be more aware of my actions (and how they reflect my faith) and praying more often.

Ice cream isn’t childish, Charlie - be glad it isn’t bad words! My husband’s working on “his language”. I heard him say “holy cow” today, so I know he’s serious 🙂

Being Orthodox, most of that is decided for me. 🙂
No meat, fish (with a backbone), or dairy, and wine and olive oil only on the weekends. Less food in general at each meal, and no fancy cooking.
Beyond that, I’m going to be reducing my time on the internet so that I have more time to read edifying Orthodox books and of course The Book. I’m going to get really serious about my exercise program (I’m too good at making excuses…) Also, setting aside more time each day for purposeful prayer and communication with God. This is probably the hardest part. Food is nice, but eventually I get used to the fasting, but paying attention to praying is really difficult for me. My prayerful goal is to have some kind of spiritual growth that lasts beyond Lent this year. Honestly, it seems that by that time Pentecost comes around, I’m ready for another Lent because I get so lazy! Lord have mercy on me, a sinner.
