Is it being omitted or will it still be said to introduce the Collect. I was just noticing this, because it seem to be left out in the new Today’s Missal from OCP but is there in the current one.
Yes, the “Let us pray” is in the new translation of the Mass. Whether it shows up in a particular privately-published missal is, of course, a different story. Is it being omitted or will it still be said to introduce the Collect. I think the confusion here is that the actual words “Let us pray” are no longer printed before each collect in the upcoming Roman Missal. They are printed in the Missal itself, they’re just not repeated on every page as they used to be.The Latin hasn’t changed. It’s Oremus.
The Romans used the word “orare” to refer to speech, or coming from the mouth (os, oris- mouth). The Church Christianized the Latin to mean “to pray,” presumed “out loud” as opposed to “in silence.”
