#1 - You realize that it’s Lent and immediately spit it out in a napkin even though it really tastes good. In that case you will be greatly rewarded through your sacrifice and denial of something you really wanted.

#2 - You realize that it’s Lent and finish the bite but don’t finish eating the remaining half of the sandwich. Again, you will be rewarded through your denial of something that you really wanted.

#3 - You realize that it’s Lent but finish the entire sandwich anyway. In my opinion that’s not a mortal sin, but you’d better check with a priest on that. You could just offer up something else that you really want.

Why do the KofC do the chicken fried steak dinners on friday nights then?? im a bit of a carnivore, i hope this isnt true…😦

Pug:
This is the case in the USA for Latin-rite Catholics. From canon law:

Canon 1253 It is for the conference of bishops to determine more precisely the observance of fast and abstinence and to substitute in whole or in part for fast and abstinence other forms of penance, especially works of charity and exercises of piety.

The easiest way would be to do abstinence from meat all the Fridays of the year, but you can substitute something else outside lent.

We do fish fries.

Around here we have fish fries. Even the local restaurants still serve some fish on friday, but it is usually baked (blech!).

You can eat meat on any Friday outside of lent, you just ought to do something in place of abstinence in that case, like visit a sick relative, abstain from chocolate, wear an annoying article of clothing, say a special prayer, whatever.
