My Husband and i were born and raised catholic however we did not get married in the catholic church. We now have 2 children and want to baptize them Catholic. The church is requiring that i submit a letter explaining our reasoning as to why we didnt marrying the church and how we plan to raise our children as catholics. Does anyone have any insights on this or key points that should be addressed?
Thanks,

I would suggest you convalidate your marriage, and demonstrate by actions your intention to practice the faith and raise your children Catholic.

I’ve never encountered that before. Typically this is a discussion with the pastor during baptismal prep for the children.

Are these children under the age of 7 or 8?

Well, just tell the truth.

Thanks. Yes, the priest is requesting a letter as well as a meeting.
Yes, both children are under 7.
And of course i would tell the truth. I just dont know where to being and im a horrible writer LOL

Regular attendance at Mass will help your case (and letter) because the priest will see that your baptism request is sincere and not just a traditional social custom.
