Can we discuss what this means? I have a very basic idea of how the Church uses this phrase, but am interested in learning more.

Does Lex orandi concern only liturgical actions and gestures, or is there a deeper sense?

And also, this brings up the question in my mind:
Does the heart, where faith would be centered in a person, lead the person to appreciate the law of prayer? Or does the law of prayer, or liturgical action (are they the same thing?), bring a person’s heart to Christ? Or maybe this is a circular process.

I’m sure there has to be some great Catholic theologian out there who has written a beautiful reflection on this phrase. I’m not sure offhand, though. :o

I have only ever seen it mentioned in Church documents in the context of the liturgy. I don’t think that necessarily excludes a “deeper sense.” Though how much deeper can you go than the liturgy? 😉
