Liberalism is Not Conducive to Happiness

WASHINGTON – To bemused conservatives, it looks like yet another example of analytic overkill by the intelligentsia – a jobs program for the (mostly liberal) academic boys (and girls) in the social sciences, whose quantitative tools have been brought to bear to prove the obvious.

A survey by the Pew Research Center shows that conservatives are happier than liberals – in all income groups. While 34 percent of all Americans call themselves ``very happy,’’ only 28 percent of liberal Democrats (and 31 percent of moderate or conservative Democrats) do, compared to 47 percent of conservative Republicans. This finding is niftily self-reinforcing: It depresses liberals.

I guess you can’t believe everything you read.
 
George Will responded to this survey this weekend on ABC’s “This Week” this way:

Conservatives are pessimists. They are usually correct on all the issues which makes them happy, but they are also delighted when they are wrong.😃

The report did say that some liberals are “very happy.” You reported that you are “pretty happy” which would seem to reaffirm the study’s findings since your not “very happy” and therefore you are part of the liberal majority in the study.

I guess you don’t understand statistics.
This finding does not mean there are no happy liberals.
 
I’ve suspected this was the case for quite a while. I expect that it is related to conservatives more often having religious faith, belief in free will, belief in the innate worth in human beings (rather than the common liberal belief that humans are an evil species destroying the earth), and less often being contaminated with the mental and emotional poisons of relativism, promiscuity and self-pity than liberals.
I certainly am much happier now than I was as a liberal (not that one example means much).
 
Perhaps it conservatives have A spine B conciouse or C souls. 😉

Just kidding. But I can’t say I’ve met a decent liberal. Perhaps I should get out more often. :rolleyes:
