A lie is a sin against God. If you believe that you are guilty of such an offense to our Lord, make amends as you believe best. If you are availed of the Sacrament, make a good confession. Complete the assigned Penance and do your very best to avoid lying again.
Lying is never right and as you have found, only creates more work and effort in order to clean up the mess we made in the first place.

If you say, “lie” about your name or age in order to get some benefit…eg you’re not allowed to chat unless you’re 13 or 18 etc. or you have to have an irish last name in order to join a sight, then thats a lie.
But if you are John Jones age 15, Monteray CA and you put in Pete Smith, 16, from Bizmark North Dakokata, in order to soley protect your privacy in a NON BUSINESS environment then I don’t see whats wrong. It would be no different than any other physical role-playing game.
However, this should be a warning to be more vigilant on the internet and your internet personality. Who I am on the internet is a protected version of myself. I’m much over the age targeted by preditiors, and too young to be in the swindled category but I still practice good internet habits, never reveling too much information on myself, and therefore, never needing to lie.

You probably don’t need to make a new account, but you should consult a priest. What was the lie? What was the purpose of it? (guiding questions, you don’t need to answer them to me). As a PP said, did you do it to protect your identity?, and so on…

ok, it’s definitely a venial sin. So, in your next regularly-scheduled confession (don’t make a special trip for this), confess it. In the meantime, you do not have to delete your account. Simply resolve to tell the truth next time. And if the person ever figures out that you lied to them, admit it, apologize, and move on.
