We had about 20 people show up this year, definitely the lowest participation we have ever seen.

This is a great story @Dave27360 , thank you so much for telling us about this and posting. Praying for all Catholics who respect the sanctity of life and those who don’t as well. This is such an important matter.

That’s possible, but participating is not a high risk activity. The event is held outdoors, masks are encouraged (but not enforced), everyone is distanced.

The people I know who are nervous of COVID are not going out, period. Anywhere.

This includes a lot of older people and people with kids, who normally would be up for attending a pro-life event.

Our city is under a mask order, masks are required even outside unless proper social distancing is possible. On a busy tourist town sidewalk that means masks must be worn or face a fine.

That’s really inappropriate. A lot of cities have that requirement. My town is currently under a state of emergency due to a spike caused by returning college students, and masks are required whenever you’re in public within the city limits, including outside, with a $300 fine for non-compliance that is reportedly being enforced by police.

You’re excepted from the mask rule if you’re a child under a certain age, if you have a health or religious reason not to wear a mask (I presume “religious” exception is what allows the local priests and lectors to take their masks off when performing functions during Mass, since the church is a public place) , or if you’re sitting at an outdoor table eating food.

I frankly think it’s about time they enforced this, because for several months people have been just walking around town in large unrelated groups and on crowded sidewalks, mostly not wearing any masks and not distancing. Not at all surprised we’re having a spike.

In my city they have lifechains for decades along a certain long busy highway. Numbers used to be sufficient to cover almost the entire length continuously.

Numbers have been dropping steadily in recent years. This year a few parishes opted to hold a mini chain in front of the church, or at a nearby busy road. I think next year that will be the norm.

That’s really inappropriate.
I disagree. My comment was proportionate to the situation.

Unfortunately, CAF mods don’t seem to want to allow any discussion which is critical of political leaders, as they keep deleting my posts (but disingenuously leave replies to the posts up - not sure how that makes sense), so I guess we’ll have to leave it at that.
