Baseball is a terrific sport. This song recorded back in the late 1950s has some great lyrics.
The Bible even starts with
In The Big Inning. 😄 ⚾ ⚾ ⚾
 
What is your favorite baseball movie?
I liked Bull Durham and Field of Dreams.
 
There are a lot of great baseball movies, including For The Love of the Game, Field of Dreams, Bull Durham, The Sandlot, A League of Their Own, The Rookie, etc.
I remember some obscure baseball moves like It Happens Every Spring and Rhubarb! They occasionally appear on Turner Classic Movies.

My Tigers were “historic” underdogs to Justin Verlander and the Astros tonight.

Verlander only allowed two baserunners all night, but they were both solo home runs. And Tigers pitching was outstanding. The Tigers won, 2-1. The Astros’ Chirinos was cut down trying to stretch a double into a triple for the final out. (A triple would have given him the cycle; he homered for the Astros’ lone run.)

Must be particularly tough to face him as a Tigers fan…😉

Anyways, I was surprised to see Oakland go 3 - 1 against the Astros over the weekend, including beating Verlander. I was supposed to attend the third game but didn’t get to it. 😦 Oh well, time to see if he can win this series against the Yankees. Overall, the worst we can do is 4 - 3 across back-to-back series against the two best teams in the AL, though I’m obviously hoping we can continue winning against the Yankees. Either way, for a stretch that could have seriously hurt our playoff potential, I’m glad to see the A’s come out on top and even without Laureano.

True story: In August 2017, the first time MLB had that special weekend where the players wear nicknames on their jerseys, I ordered a T-shirt replica of Verlander’s jersey.

It arrived the day Verlander was traded to the Astros.

I kept it. Still a fan of Verlander the player. (Except when he’s pitching against the Tigers.)

Baseball is the only sport where on any given day or night, the worst team in the league can beat the best team in the league.
 
Another good baseball movie: “42”, about Jackie Robinson. first African-American to play in the major leagues.
