I have often read about Christians having a “life verse.” I’ve kind of figured out what it is but would like to hear from someone who knows what it is and (bonus!) has one. This seems to be a Evangelical practice, primarily.

So, tell me about it.

How did you decide what it was? Did you choose it or did it choose you (was it inspired)?

You’ll see mine at the bottom of this post (I’m assuming you’re talking about a verse that they try and live their life by, or that has touched them in some special way). This verse just seemed to grab me. It’s how I try to live my life. Guess that would be a “life verse”…or am I WAY off?

I have a life verse… it is Psalms 27:14
Wait patiently for the Lord
Be brave and courageous…
Yes, wait patiently for the Lord…

Cool thread here.🙂

If I have it correct, I think I understand. Right offhand I can’t remember the exact verse but it is from the book of Matthew, I believe Chapter 8.

“Ask, and you shall recieve. Seek and you shall find, Knock and the door will be opened. For the one who asks, recieves, the one who seeks, finds, and the one who knocks, enters.”

I am always looking for the answers to something…and trying to look to God. This verse reminds me who has the key and where I should ALWAYS go! And you know…when the time is right, God DOES answer, and sometimes we need to look around and realize we have already recieved the very gifts we are requesting. Amazing.

Now…does the “life verse” change over time?

Phillipians 4:4-9. This passage sort of chose me, about 8 or 9 years ago. It pierced my heart when I was reading that book one day. I couldn’t stop thinking about it & I started trying to make it my rule of life… still do.

Here’s two important ones for me (there are others, and they change in time)

Phil 4:13 - I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me

John15:5b - apart from me (Jesus) you can do nothing.

My weakness, his strength. Total ineffectiveness on my own. Success on the walk towards sanctification when grasping our Saviour.

Blessings,

Okay, then, I guess this would be my life verse (one of them at least):

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD , "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.

Jeremiah 29:10-12

Such hope!

Be bold be strong for the Lord your God is with Thee. Joshua1vs9

This was the first verse I had felt compelled to memorize exactly and exactly where it was.

:bible1: John 1:1 In the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God.

Right after I memorized this verse, I moved right across the street from a wonderful JW family. I got into many talks with them. In fact, a couple of times I started to question if maybe they were right. Each time, that verse came back to me.

Thank you Lord for keeping me safely within your arms and protected by your Grace!:amen:
